We are a binational art collective analyzing & seeking to transform social + cultural + economic exchange across the Southern California border region through collaborative research projects and artistic interventions that engage transnational communities.
Tijuana, MX //
Our primary site of research + intervention has been the Mercado de Artesanias de la Linea, an artisan market located in the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Our work seeks to document how trans-border social + cultural + economic networks come to define the construction of citizenship in a city that is seeking to surmount violence, corruption, and the disintegration of civil society.
San Diego, CA //
Our primary research on "the other side" has sought to analyze the transplantation + encroachment of informal social + economic systems into this heavily militarized tourist city by immigrant communities. Our work has focused on situating markets as symbolic nexus in/for working class communities.
Imperial Valley, CA + Mexicali, MX //
Our work here has looked at shifts in migration patterns and routes through the desert -- focusing on documenting the dangerous trek of undocumented migrants through the treacherous desert landscape, and community responses to the rising volumes of deportations of migrants across the border into Mexicali, B.C..
Santa Ana, CA //
We are developing research projects and designing public interventions that reflect on the history of the city's civic center, focusing on the recent redevelopment of Fourth Street ( or "la Cuatro"), the principal social + economic + cultural artery of the Mexican community living in Santa Ana.
